Since at least the 1980's, Republicans Abroad Germany has served as the official Country Chapter ofthe international organization of Republicans Abroad (RAI). In 2007 as a non-profit, volunteer organization in Germany, Republicans Abroad Germany e.V. was founded and is registered with the local court (Amtsgericht Frankfurt am Main under Vereinsregisternummer 13737). Our members are dedicated to the goals of: conducting non-partisan voter registration for U.S. citizens residing in Germany, including assistance with absentee ballots for U.S. federal elections; voter outreach including providing information about Republican policies and candidates; promoting the principles of the U.S. Republican Party through hosting events, fundraising and public outreach; representing U.S. citizens living in Germany in the political process in the United States; and strengthening German-American relations through intercultural exchange and dialogue, including working closely with German organizations and media outlets (see Public & Media Outreach).
As to the latter, in RA Germany we particularly welcome the active participation German nationals and other non-U.S. citizen conservatives living in Germany.
Non-U.S. Citizens Can Join RA Germany, too! In early 2006, GOP Europe was officially founded in Berlin with the objective of serving as a European counterpart to RA Germany in order to promote transatlantic relations. It was the initial intent to refer any non-U.S. citizen interested in RA Germany membership to GOP Europe, and that both clubs share events and have reciprocal privileges.
With GOP Europe currently inactive, non-U.S. citizens are now encouraged to also join RA Germany as "Friends of Republicans Abroad". So that RA Germany complies with RAI's By-Laws' requirements for its country chapters (i.e. our voting membership shall be open to only U.S. citizens) at RA Germany's October 16, 2009 Annual General Meeting, its membership - including non-U.S. members - unanimously approved that any non-U.S. citizen individual or legal entity could, as a non-voing Associate member, join RA Germany. For more information, and that non-U.S Citizen membership, application, see our Join Us page.
With over 200,0001 U.S. citizens residing in Germany, RA Germany relies solely upon the voluntary support and financial contributions of members, donors and sponsors to carry out the above activities. RA Germany maintains a number of local city and regional sub-chapters to help U.S. citizens stay abreast of political developments and to reach out to the local population. Next to registering voters for U.S. federal elections including for the mid-term elections this November, one of our most important goals is to provide intellectual safe harbor for those wishing to discuss politics and just network. To be a part of what we are doing today, we hope you wil join us. 1 According to the U.S. State Department's latest estimates 5.26 million Americans live abroad (excluding military). Of the top 10 countries outside America where most citizens live, Germany ranks second only to the U.K. with only ca. 13,000 more. In addition, RA shares and supports the same Goals 2009 of other American overseas citizen organizations including OAW.
